His Resurrection Destiny
“Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?” (Luke 24:26)
Dr. Chambers opening sentences are packed with power: “Our Lord’s Cross is the gateway into His life. His resurrection means that He has the power to convey His life to me. When I was born again, I received the very life of the risen Lord from Jesus Himself.” His resurrection means that He has the power to convey His life to me. Had He not risen from the dead He would have nothing to offer me AND there would be no credibility to what He told His disciples. “Tear down this temple and in three days I will raise it up again.” (John 2:19), “From that time Jesus began to show His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised up on the third day.” (Matthew 16:21)— and He DID rise from the dead, as the angels told the women on the day of resurrection- “…“Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said…” (Matthew 28:5-6)
Chambers gives us assurance that, “Christ’s resurrection destiny— His foreordained purpose— was to bring “many sons to glory” (Hebrews 2:10). The fulfilling of His destiny gives Him the right to make us sons and daughters of God.” Jesus came to die for sinful mankind. “He who knew no sin became sin for us that we might become the righteousness of God” (II Corinthians 5:21). Christ lived a sinless life for which the reward was eternal life, due to the wages of sin being death (Romans 6:23), and then He turned around and handed that free gift to those who believe. We learn from I John 1:7- “the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin.”
Christ accomplished what no one before had nor ever since, “When our Lord rose from the dead, He rose to an absolutely new life— a life He had never lived before He was God Incarnate. He rose to a life that had never been before.” The ramifications of that statement are absolutely mind blowing: Jesus rose from the dead to a new life that He Himself had never experienced!
Paul tells us that Christ did not consider equality with God a thing to be held onto, but emptied Himself, taking on the flesh of a human (Philippians 2:5-8), going so far as to even die as one that consisted of flesh and blood, so when He rose from the dead- He HIMSELF had never experienced anything like that! He rose to a life that had never been before: the first sinless, human being!! The design for which man was created was accomplished in Christ!!!
Chambers tells us, “we can know here and now the power and effectiveness of His resurrection and can “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4). Paul’s determined purpose was to “know Him and the power of His resurrection” (Philippians 3:10). We are to be living out resurrected lives right here and now!
Ephesians 1:13,14 reads, “In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God’s own possession, to the praise of His glory.”
OC closes with, “The term Holy Spirit is actually another name for the experience of eternal life working in human beings here and now. The Holy Spirit is the deity of God who continues to apply the power of the atonement by the Cross of Christ to our lives. Thank God for the glorious and majestic truth that His Spirit can work the very nature of Jesus into us, if we will only obey Him.” Never disregard the fact that the Holy Spirit is equal Deity to the Father and the Son AND He lives in the believer!
